Philosophy for Youth Classes

IRT Youth Classes Mission

To provide young people with high-quality, innovative theatrical training, taught by theatre professionals and teaching artists; to broaden their horizons as people and as artists; and to help our students learn skills that will prove valuable in life, as well as lessons specific to the craft of theatre.


 

IRT YOUTH CLASSES Fall 2008
Saturday Mornings (9 classes in 10 weeks.)

Imagination Station - 4-6yrs
Come to the land of creativity. We’ll play games, tell stories, and use our bodies and voices to become creatures, things of nature, and people from back then, now, and yet to come. Each class will be a new adventure! Friends and family are invited to share in the fun during the last ten minutes of each class. The class will conclude with a final presentation.

Fall Session:  Saturday, September 20th- Saturday, November 22nd  Fee: $135   9:30-10:30AM
  
Audition Perfection! - 7-9yrs
You want the part, then come and learn what is needed to make your audition outstanding. Learn how to choose a piece, rehearse it, and about audition protocol. Basic acting skills and terminology will also be covered. *Parents will be asked to attend 20 minutes of selected classes.

Fall Session:  Saturday, September 20th- Saturday, November 22nd   Fee: $165   9:30-10:30AM
  
A Little of This and That: The actor’s craft - 10-13yrs
Find out some of what it takes to be an actor these days. This class will consist of a sampling of the actor’s tools like voice and diction, dance, improvisation, script work, and the list goes on. Each class will be different and sometimes the instructor will be too because this is another way actors learn!

Fall Session:  Saturday, September 20th- Saturday, November 22nd  Fee: $165  10:30-11:30AM

Mime, Movement, Comedy, and Combat- 14-18yrs
There are roles in plays where extensive or specific movement is essential to the complete development of the character. Join our artists in an exploration of acting from the physical point of view. The variety of content will keep it fun.

Fall Session:  Saturday, September 20th- Saturday, November 22nd  Fee: $210  10:00-11:30AM
    

Monday Evenings (9 classes in 10 weeks.)

Discovery Chest - 4-6yrs
Our theatre chest will contain something new for you to discover each class! The multi-sensory objects that you’ll find will inspire you and your fellow actors to engage your bodies, minds, and voices to create different imaginative adventures each week! *Friends and family are invited to share in the fun during the last ten minutes of each class.

Fall Session: Monday, September 29th- Monday, December 1st Fee: $135   5:30-6:30PM
 
 
Act That Story - 7-9yrs
Use your voices, bodies, ideas, reading skills, and a few props to bring stories to life for an audience. Basic acting skills and terminology will be introduced. The class will conclude with a final presentation.

Fall Session: Monday, September 29th- Monday, December 1st      Fee: $165   5:30-6:30PM
  

Character Class- 10-13yrs
Join us for an exploration of character. Learn how strong character choices empower an actor to live fully on the stage. Have fun using your actor tools to change into different people and beings. Text, props, and improvisation work will be incorporated into the class work.

Fall Session: Monday, September 29th- Monday, December 1st  Fee: $165   6:30-7:30PM
  

Audition Readiness - 14-18yrs
Find out what you need for a solid audition. Learn ways to prepare so you get the callback for the part in the play or admitted to the college of your choice. CHOOSE it, DEVELOP it, OWN it!

Fall Session: Monday, September 29th- Monday, December 1st  Fee: $210   6:00-7:30PM
